Agra rural MP threatens to block Obama's way to the Taj

Narendra Modi may be good at governing the country, but he is doing quite poorly in managing his 300-plus MPs who seem to be creating all sorts of problems for him by their statements.

This time, it is the BJP MP for Fatehpur Sikri (Agra rural), who has threatened to cause a diplomatic incident by blocking US President Barack Obama from entering the Taj Mahal, if the government does not accede to the demand for a high court bench in Agra.

According to the sources, Fatehpur Sikri BJP MP Ch Babulal (formerly of the Rahstriya Lok Dal) had attended a meeting of Agra lawyers at the Agra civil courts on January 17, where representatives of 17 districts were present. In this meeting, a resolution was passed by the advocates with Babulal's consent that the advocates will prevent US president Barack Obama from entering the Taj Mahal on January 27, if the government does not agree to their demand for a high court bench in Agra.

Addressing the meeting, Babulal had supported this resolution and had said "jahan wakeelon ka paseena girega wahan khoon gira denge". Enthused by this response, the lawyers have now decided that Babulal will lead the demonstration march that will block Obama's way into the Taj Mahal.  Anil Chowdhary, the representative of the Union Law Minister, is also being expected to be a part of the demonstration.

However, when India Today tried to clarify Babulal's stand on this issue, the MP appeared to be confused about what exactly the lawyers want from him. He agreed that he had supported the lawyers demands for a high court bench in Agra, but there was no question of stopping Obama's entourage on a domestic issue.

He said the only demand he remembers agreeing to was to block the way to the Taj Mahal on January 27, but it had nothing to do with the US President. It was quite possible that Obama will be back in Delhi when this demonstration begins. He also said that he has agreed to give monetary help to the lawyer agitation, as this was a matter concerning his electorate.

Meanwhile, a meeting held between the Agra administration and the lawyers on Thursday ended at an inconclusive note, with the lawyers adamant on stopping Obama's cavalcade from entering the Taj Mahal. The meeting was held at the Agra Collectorate by Additional District Magistrate Agra.
