Two appeals filed by NAB in PM corruption cases

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed two appeals in the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding two previous corruption cases against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

This was stated by Chairman NAB, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry during a press conference at a local hotel in Quetta on Friday evening. Director General NAB Balochistan Syed Khalid Iqbal was also present on the occasion.

He said the LHC had recently given a verdict on NAB cases of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Chaudhry however informed that NAB has challenged the verdict of the accountability court for quashing cases against Nawaz Sharif in LHC.

"Nobody is above the law and ruthless accountability is important," the chairman NAB responded to a question when asked about political victimisation in the country.
To another question, Chaudhry informed that an investigation was underway against former Balochistan chief minister, Nawab Aslam Raisani regarding a corruption case.

"Without solid evidence we cannot arrest anyone," the chairman stated when asked about rampant corruption in Balochistan.

Chaudhry also stated that NAB was interrogating some important corruption cases in the province without naming any political personality or minister.
"We will not spare anyone in corruption cases," he vowed.

The NAB chairman dispelled the impression of political interference in the bureau and made it clear that he believed in a transparent investigation of corruption cases.

NAB Balochistan disposed off 295 complaint verifications, completed 70 of the total 177 authorised inquiries and finished 26 out of 47 authorised investigations during the year 2014.

"Since its establishment, NAB Balochistan had recovered 1329.289 million rupees," said the DG NAB Syed Khalid Iqbal.

When asked about corruption in government departments, the DG NAB Balochistan informed that most of the complaints received were about the province's education department.

He stated that action was also being taken against elements with dual government jobs, stating that over 30 employees in the province have been apprehended by NAB.
